Classes: Aerial Fabric
Instructed by Rachel McMeachin & Destiny Vinley.
A quick note to keep everyone updated on events and classes.
First fabrics came in today (May 1, 2008) for Scott Fitness. I will be hanging them tonight. This means classes will begin on Monday May 5th. All classes will run in three week increments so the second set of classes begin May 26th. All S.F. classes will be held at the 3.0 location (2020 Washington) Monday nights 5:30 to 7. These are free to members of the gym. If you are interested in taking these classes remember to register, I can only take 8 students per class and the first 2 rounds have been filled. But don't fret if you haven't signed up yet I will be starting a new round every 3 weeks.
For all of those interested in taking an intensive (the intensives are geared toward the performance side where the SF classes are geared toward the fitness side) we have tentatively scheduled Lynn to come back the last weekend of June. At this time we are still looking for a place with ceiling heights 20 feet or higher for the level 4 group. If anyone knows of a location that would welcome us for a weekend of classes I would love the info.
Next, we have our first performance date set. Will be at the Foundation, 1221 union (in the west bottoms) on June 13th as a part of their Urban Bizarre. Check their website for more info: Foundation KC.
We are also in discussions to be performing at the Donkey Show at the Cross Town Station. We are just waiting to see if their insurance company will let us perform our feats of danger and daring. And lastly, we are still planning on doing a half time show for the Kansas City Roller Warriors - look for us mid to late summer. Hale arena would be an amazing venue, those ceiling are just so darn high. Fingers crossed.
If anyone has any questions or comments we would love to hear from you.
Aerial Fitness is a new way to physically challenge yourself and have fun at the same time. Beginning class material will rotate on a three-week cycle, but feel free to drop by any time!
Flexibility, core strengthening, and of course safety will be our primary focuses. Combining exercises from Yoga and Pilates, we will thoroughly prepare our bodies before we approach the fabrics (or “the curtains” as John calls them). Don't worry if this all seems new and a little crazy. Rachel's laid-back personality and teaching techniques will put you at ease instantly.
Wear comfortable clothes, bring a yoga mat if you have one, and be prepared to brag to all your friends after class about your new skills!

Rachel McMeachin
"I am a fierce flower brought to fruition in a hothouse of vanguard artistic expression. I am a lover of life, cabaret and the mongerelled hoard born of strange bedfellow.
Known to be rowdy, shocking, unquiet and curious, I have become the occasional circus performer, burlesque dancer and creative conduit. I started following a curiosity for aerial fabric.
Studying under Lynn Coleman, an aerial artist born and raised in the circus, I have been inspired to bring my newest passion to those brave enough to try. Laughing easy and living large, my goal is to make aerial fabrics a fun place to work hard and achieve brilliance."

Destiny Vinley
Originally from New England, Destiny has happily made Kansas City her home for the last five years. Through her training in theater, she began to explore the extensions of physical performance in the arts.
Destiny began her aerial training under the instruction of Lynn Coleman, founder of Aerial Fabrics Denver.
Destiny has since begun pursuing her own interests in urban suspensions and aerial work. She is excited to be working with Rachel McMeachin to develop Kansas City's premier Aerial Fabrics Performing Company and to extend her aerial knowledge to others through Aerial Fitness classes at Scott Fitness 3.0.

"I started learning aerials with Rachel and Destiny back in October, and geeze! Look at those pics! We've come a long way and had a great time doing it. I remember how hard my first climb was, discovering all those muscles I'd forgotten about. Now I'm working on a routine, staying on the fabric for a few minutes. I don't think it'll ever stop being challenging, but I'm 100% sure it'll never stop being fun. That's what keeps you climbing back on. Life's to short to leave all the fun to circus folk. I knew this was a rare opportunity when I signed up, and it's really amazing that we can share it with everyone at the gym."
