Self Defense Instructor
BS in Nutrition Sciences, University of Missouri
"From a very young age, I knew I wanted to help people, though I didn't really know in what way. Over the years, my direction has changed a couple of times, but the search for how to help people ultimately led me to my degree choice & career field. I also spend time every summer volunteering as a camp counselor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's summer camp.
I recently graduated from the University of Missouri - Columbia, where I earned my BS in Nutrition Sciences. During my four years at Mizzou, I worked as a student athletic trainer for the women's softball team, taking care of their bumps & bruises and helping rehabilitate athletes after surgery or major injuries. After graduation, my family ties brought me back to the Kansas City area and Scott Fitness.
It was in the fall of my junior year at Mizzou that I enrolled in my first self-defense class for women. It was such an empowering experience for me that I wanted to share that feeling with everyone I could. I eagerly taught my friends and co-workers the skills I learned in class. At the beginning of the spring semester, the professor asked if I would be interested in helping teach the class. I ended up being a volunteer teaching assistant for three semesters and helped to teach over 180 women the skills I feel are important for everyone to know. Over my two-year involvement with the class, I also got a couple of "gigs" doing self-defense seminars for campus organizations.
I was really excited to hear that Scott Fitness wanted to offer a self-defense class, even more excited when they asked me to teach it. I can't wait to share the knowledge and skills with you."
