Adam Wade Duncan is a Full Lyric Tenor living in Kansas City. He has taught voice and choir at the university level since 1994, and has maintained an active private voice studio since 1991. He has taught male and female students ranging in ages from 10 to 75, and has instructed amateur as well as professional singers and actors, including Shannon Durig, who is the current lead, Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway production of Hairspray, in New York City. Mr. Duncan is an opera singer, having experience in opera, art song, and other classical music, along with experience in musical theater, gospel and other popular music.
"Adam is very knowledgeable not just about music and singing but also anatomy and physiology. He helps explain to me how my body produces and hears sound and how I can use my breath, muscles and organs to feel, control and distort sound. He explains things in a clear and easy to understand manner for any age or level of experience.
He makes me feel very comfortable in what could potentially be an embarrassing situation for some people. No matter what your initial reason for taking singing lessons, I think you'll find Adam to be a fun instructor and his lessons will be fantastic mental exercises. To stay healthy, we need to exercise our brains just like we need to exercise our bodies."
Mr. Duncan is currently pursuing an active singing career, and has sung locally at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and the Civic Opera of Kansas City. In June of 2008, he will sing the Stage Manager in the new Opera by Ned Rorem, Our Town with the Civic Opera of Kansas City.
Adam's most influential voice teachers have been Rebecca Sherburn-Bly, Anne DeLaunay and Marvin Bloomquist; and his most influential coaches have been Lamar Sims, Richard Williams, Chris Lacey and Eugene Cline.
"Find Your Expressive Voice. If you can walk you can dance, If you can speak you can sing. I firmly believe that everyone can learn to sing. The process of learning to connect to your voice and body is a great way to free up tensions and emotions.
Learning to sing will not only provide you with a way to make beautiful music, it will also enable you to feel and communicate your emotions as your truly expressive self. The human voice is one of the clearest paths to the soul. Finding your expressive voice will tap directly into your own amazing and creative self. The energy that is found there can be utilized to create communication, beauty and full self-expression."

"We are very fortunate to have amoung our members and associates such an incredible singing and educational talent as Adam Wade Duncan. Singing is physical exercise and it's emotionally and intellectually stimulating... it is neurobic. You will feel parts of your brain and body reawaken from years of inactivity. When was the last time you sang a song out loud and paid attention to your voice, your pronounciation, your pitch and tone. For many of us our singing careers started and ended in elementary school music class. The ability to sing is trainable and part of being human. We're proud to offer singing and voice lessons at Scott Fitness. " ~ John Scott
