Kirk's Story

"Nothing gives me greater pride than to tell the story about how I lost 120 pounds and steered my life and career into health and fitness. I grew up basically a fat child. By the time I was 16 years old I was 5’7” and just a hamburger away from 300 pounds. Like many overweight people I had a jolly disposition – always smiling and helping others. People perceived me as a happy kid. How wrong that perception was.

I was depressed and hurting with low self esteem. At a time when I should have been buying the coolest teenager clothes and dating, I was at home in my room watching TV and eating. Anyone reading this with a similar background understands what I’m talking about.

Despite my weight, I played football and other sports. But, with my expanding waistline, some activities were becoming difficult. I knew something needed to change and I was determined to change. I tried exercising the weight off but that didn’t work. Dieting the weight off didn’t work either. I also tried wishing and worrying it off and that certainly didn’t work.

I began to research nutrition and learned that we all need food, lots of it, on a regular basis. It just has to be the right food. And no, you don’t have to sacrifice taste and variety. I also studied fitness and training and learned that all programs must have a combination of strength and cardiovascular training. Over time, I learned that results can only be achieved through a planned combination of diet, strength and cardiovascular training, goal setting, positive thinking and ideally good coaching.

Today, with my own personal achievements, eight years of experience as a trainer, combined with my knowledge of health, fitness and nutrition, I passionately enjoy helping people establish goals and coaching them to surpass those goals and reach their dreams.

As a good friend of mine says, "You never have to have a bad day again".
