Over the years, my direction has changed a couple of times, but the search for how to help people ultimately led me to my degree choice & career field.

I graduated from the University of Missouri - Columbia, where I earned my Bachelors in Human Environmental Science, majoring in Nutrition Sciences. I absolutely LOVE my degree, except I wasn't so fond of conducting research or spending time in a lab. After graduation, my family ties brought me back to the Kansas City area and Scott Fitness.

Diet. There I said it. That "horrible" word that so many fear really isn't that scary. Diet just means the food you eat. Some people choose to follow special diets to help control a medical condition, because of their beliefs, or to lose or gain weight. Diet should not be a word to fear. Food is good. It fuels our bodies & helps us survive, though there are many foods out there hurt our chances for survival.

scott fitness nutritionist, monica anwander "More About Me: Occasionally, when fueled by bad weather, slow gym traffic, and an excessive amount of coffee, you can find me re-writing the lyrics to well known songs. My versions generally follow the story of the day's gym activities, anything from shoveling snow, to chasing rain drops to cleaning potties.

I volunteer as a camp counselor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and spend a week every summer spending time with my camp family.

You've all probably heard people say "You know...Everything in Moderation," but I don't believe that's necessarily true of "everything." I feel that "Most things in Moderation" is actually more appropriate."

I can help you analyze your daily intake, determine what are the "good" foods and what are the "bad" foods, and find where improvements can be made in order to accomplish your goals, while maintaining a well balanced diet that provides all of the nutrients your body needs. I can help you find ways to have the time in your busy schedules to have a good breakfast before you jet out the door to work, and be able carry a pretty good lunch with you as you go, instead of relying on the plethora of heart-attack in a bag, type restaurants.

I do not believe that a person can stick to a plan with any amount of motivation if all of the foods they love are considered "bad" and are forever banished from his/her plate, nor do I believe that a lifestyle change can be accomplished without outside support from family, friends, and/or any other human support system.

I can help you establish a "do-able" plan, that can be easily Incorporated into your current lifestyle in such a way that, before you know it, it becomes your lifestyle.

What you can expect from me:
  1. A friendly smile
  2. An eagerness to share the information I have
  3. Tips & Tricks for preparing/cooking healthier meals
  4. And a whole lot of one-on-one, face-to-face support.

Aaron Tippin with Monica Anwander at Scott Fitness 2.0 in Kansas City, Missouri "This photo was taken September 7th, 2007. Country music star Aaron Tippin was in town headlining 94.1 KFKF's Summer of Freedom Concert, held at World's of Fun. Growing up as a fan of country music, I was Uber-Excited to hear that I would get the chance to meet him at the gym. I'm not going to lie...I think I played "Kiss This" & "Where the Stars And Stripes And the Eagle Fly" on repeat in my car for days afterwards.

Aaron is the first (and to this point, only) internationally known star to "get his lift on" at Scott Fitness. I wanted to ask him if he wouldn't mind spreading the word to other country music stars like, maybe Tim McGraw & Kenny Chesney, about this locally owned gym in KC that would be the PERFECT place for them, should they come here and need a place to workout. I decided that I probably should avoid harassing him too much, so maybe, just maybe, he (or any of his friends) will come to Scott Fitness to workout on future trips to KC.

I did learn one very important thing that day: Even internationally known musicians know how to put their weights up when they are done lifting."
