"Hello, my name is Tim and thank you for looking at my profile. Along with being a personal trainer at Scott Fitness, I have been a Fitness Specialist with the Metropolitan Community Colleges for the past 9 years. Also, I helped develop the fitness and sports conditioning center and programs at Johnson County Community College.
My background consists of a B.A. and M.S. degrees in Health and Physical Education from UMKC, along with over 20 years of experience as a fitness instructor/strength and conditioning coach at the college level. Over the years I have worked with a very diverse group, from children as young as 7 to adults who have never exercised and Olympic athletes. While I was in college, and after, I was an Olympic-level athlete in the sport of weight lifting and was fortunate to be able to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. During these years I was privileged to compete in many national championships, lucky enough to set some national records and had the honor of representing the United States in international competition. One of the best things I received as an athlete was the opportunity to learn many of the principles and ideas on how to train properly from some of the best coaches in the world.
My training philosophy is simple and basic, there are no secrets or magic pills to getting in shape, you just have to train smart on a consistent basis. By this I mean, you have to start an exercise routine, tailored to your needs and goals, using different movements and see how your body responds. As your body adapts to these movements, the workouts and training loads have to be adjusted. This will keep the body fresh and ready to move on to more advanced training. Everyone will react to training differently, so workouts have to monitored and adjusted accordingly.
My programs are based on many of the ideas I learned as an athlete. The use of full-body movements, which most people have never done, is something I like to use for a different, fun and more efficient workout. These movements help with flexibility, work the core area and give the body that toned athletic look. Another area I like to stress importance is nutrition. I can help out with dietary guidelines to ensure the appropriate calorie intake. Through my experiences I have come to realize proper diet and nutrition are very important to achieving ones' goals.
