Along with being a trainer at Scott Fitness, I have been an Associate Professor in the Physical Education Department at Johnson County Community College for over 20 years. I also, worked for the Metropolitan Community Colleges as a Fitness Specialist for 15 years.

My background consists of a B.A. and M.S. degrees in Health and Physical Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, along with being a certified personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a certified weightlifting coach with USA Weightlifting. Over the years at JCCC I have been the strength coach for the athletic teams, director of the Lifetime Fitness Center and taught numerous classes. Also, I have had the privilege to work with and learn from Istvan “Steve” Javorek one of the leading authorities on strength training and fitness. Steve developed “complex training”, which is one of the most efficient types of training. Along with this I have been involved with the Olympic sport of weightlifting for almost 30 years. During my years as an athlete I had the opportunity to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. These days I don’t compete anymore, as age has a way of catching up with you, so I coach and serve as an official for the sport.

My training philosophy is simple and basic; there are no secrets, magic pills or gimmicks to getting in shape. You have to train smart on a consistent basis. By this I mean, you have to start an exercise routine, tailored to your goals and needs, using various exercises and movements and see how your body responds. As your body adapts, to these exercises and movements, the workouts and training loads have to be adjusted. This will keep the body fresh and ready to move on to more advanced training. Everyone will react to training differently, so workouts have to monitored and adjusted accordingly.

My programs are based on many of the principles I learned as an athlete. My number one priority to provide a safe, positive and encouraging atmosphere for a program designed to achieve your goals and needs, by using proper form and technique. The use of full-body movements is something I use for a more complete and efficient workout. These movements and workouts will improve strength, flexibility and work the core and help with balance and coordination. All of these workouts and training programs are for any fitness level, beginners to Olympic and professional athletes. Proper nutrition is another area that is very important and I can help in this area, also.

Once again I would like to thank you for looking at my profile and it would be my pleasure to help you with your fitness goals."
